We provide breaks to enable young carers and their family the opportunity to enjoy a holiday together. We believe these short breaks are extremely beneficial to families whose lives are significantly affected by the impact of caring for a family member.
A holiday provides a young carer with a break and respite from everyday stresses, mundane tasks and routines. Young carers are able to join in activities they would may not normally have access to and enables the whole family to interact in a fun environment.

What is the Holiday Home like?
Our holiday home is an excellent facility located in a quiet cul de sac, a short walk from the mere, with a wraparound decking area for you to sit out and relax. It has a parking bay for one vehicle.
Inside, it sleeps up to 6 people, comprising large living space with gas fire, two sofas and TV/DVD and separate dining area, master double bedroom with en suite bathroom and two twin bedrooms with separate family bathroom. A smaller TV/DVD and is also available in the master bedroom. The kitchen is fully equipped with gas hob/oven, microwave, toaster, full size fridge freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. There is also a travel cot, high chair, ironing board and patio furniture for your convenience. Bedding is also provided, though you are welcome to bring your own. There is central heating throughout.
It has all of the modern facilities you would expect, making it the perfect place to relax and unwind. The only thing we require you to bring are towels and tea towels and of course you and your family! We have made enquiries with Haven regarding WiFi access and unfortunately, this is only available in the main buildings.
Where is the Holiday Home?
The Holiday Home is privately owned by Wigan & Leigh Young Carers and is situated at the fabulous Haven Holidays Park – Marton Mere, only three miles away from Blackpool.
Its perfectly placed so you can relax and enjoy the facilities on the Holiday Park, and close enough to Blackpool and Lytham St. Annes if you fancy an adventure out in the surrounding area.
Who can hire the Holiday Home?
Families can refer themselves as long as there is a child or young person within that family who is taking on a regular caring role. To make sure we have 100% occupancy each year we also open the holiday home to Adult Carers and Parent Carers and their families in the school term time.
Holiday time is too precious to waste. So you don’t want any boring bits. Not if you’ve got kids that demand non-stop action, come rain or shine. Marton Mere boasts fantastic facilities and quality entertainment: from the indoor pool, outdoor SplashZone and Space Bowl flume to kids’ clubs and evening shows. Not to mention all the sporty stuff including an all-weather multi-sports court, bowling green and adventure golf course. Best of all, many of the activities are absolutely free!

Is the Holiday Home wheelchair friendly?
Our holiday home does have a wheelchair assessable ramp but it is not wheelchair assessable inside. If you require fully wheelchair accessible holiday venues then please contact us for further information on local services.
The central village on the holiday park does have wheelchair accessible areas, the site staff are really friendly and if you have any queries you can visit the site management team for more information.
What does it cost?
To hire the holiday home you will need to complete an Application Form. To get an Application Form, please contact Paul Carroll our Project Manager here.The cost for the March – November 2017 holiday season is from £175 per break. This is to hire the holiday home and not price per person. This is the only service we provide that comes with a price, as unfortunately, due to the site fees and the general upkeep, the lodge costs our Charity in excess of £8000.00 per year. (If you are struggling to meet the cost of your break, then contact us here for further advice). The rental of the holiday home includes electricity, gas, water and Haven entertainment passes, with discounts for other onsite facilities.Once you have completed your Application Form you need to pay £50 non refundable deposit, then the outstanding balance at least four weeks before your holiday date. Cheques are made payable to “Wigan & Leigh Young Carers”.
Obviously, demand for the holiday home is high, particularly during school holidays and please note that bookings are not guaranteed until the full balance has been paid. Occasionally we do get cancellations, so if it’s a last minute thought, then still contact us and we’ll see what we can do.
