We need your help!
We are a small volunteer led charity and we are always in need of extra help. Everyone can ‘donate’ something in their own way – the more who get involved, the better it is for the young carers of Wigan borough!
Whether it’s time or money, it’s all valuable to keep the good work going at Wigan & Leigh Young Carers .
We depend on our volunteers to help keep the groups and events going, but we need more.
We need your help.
Got time on your hands?
If you would like to support our Young Carers by volunteering your time with us then look here for more information about what we do; or look below at our current volunteer opportunities.
After School Groups
We URGENTLY need volunteer support workers/drivers for our after school groups.
Group work helps young carers to develop friendships, grow in confidence and build their self esteem. Caring can be an isolating experience and being part of a group where other young people experience similar issues as home, can help reduce this. Attending our groups on a regular basis also gives them the opportunity to experience the everyday pleasures of childhood, which is an essential part of personal development.
Volunteers should allow a minimum to 3 hours of volunteer time a week. Venues are dotted around Wigan borough – Ashton in Makerfield, Tyldesley, Atherton, Leigh and Wigan. Group start times vary from between 4.30 or 5pm.
Our 5-12 year old group at Trinity United Reform Church, Milton Grove (off Wigan Lane, Wigan) need new volunteers to help pick up and bring the young carers to their weekly respite group. Can you help?
Our 11-16 year old group at The Greengrass Centre, Atherton ideally need some female volunteers to help balance the dynamics – they run on a fortnightly basis if you can help out here?
Due to the long term nature of these groups we request that all volunteers are able to commit to a minimum of 6 months. Contact us here for more information on how you can help.
Charity Fundraisers/Holiday Lodge support
We are currently in need of volunteer fundraisers to help us maintain vital funds for our young carers’ activities and for our Holiday Lodge at Marton Mere in Blackpool (which also needs a team of volunteers at the start of the season, Spring clean time and in November, when it gets all tucked up for the winter).
Volunteer commitment can range from one off fundraising i.e hosting a tombolla stall in a community event or helping out with our long term fundraising strategy. Volunteering could also be something as simple as donating raffle prizes, or to be able to access discounts for local venues, which all helps. Whatever your idea, get in touch and let’s get involved!
