Wigan & Leigh Young Carers Charity, is a small charity with a BIG heart!

First of all, we want to give a huge thank you to all those local businesses who have supported us over the years and to the continued fundraising efforts of our trusted team of volunteers. Also a big thanks to Andy Burnham, now Mayor of Greater Manchester, who kindly ran the Wigan 10k for us in September 2016 and who remains a keen advocate for young carers across Greater Manchester Combined Authority.

The funds we have received which enable us to support the young carers of Wigan borough, comes from a variety of sources. We are very fortunate that national funders including Children In Need, The People’s Health Trust, The Big Lottery and Coalfields Regeneration Trust provided grants to allow us to expand our services, as in the last 4 years, we have been able to double in capacity, which is great news for our young carers. We are now an integral part of Wigan Council’s ‘The Deal’ and we work in partnership with Wigan and Leigh Adult Carers Centre, providing seamless support to carers of all ages!

Other sponsors/donations include – Duchy of Lancaster, Adactus Housing Group, Kwik Fit, Golborne Link, Lane Head South Residents Group, TK Max Leigh, Wigan Community Choir, Leigh Roundtable, Leigh Rotary, Wigan Rotary, Leigh Townswomen’s Guild, Wigan Ladies’ Guild, Astley Hire Ltd and the Co-op Community Fund.

Also, many thanks to Wigan Athletic Community Trust for delivering their Pathways to Participation programme with our young carers this autumn. Thanks also to all those local organisations including Compassion In Action and Fur Clemt, Wigan Trinity Church and Heath St Methodist, Golborne who offer their venues and their staff to support us in our work. We really do appreciate it, as do the young people.

Although we are very lucky to get these great sponsors to donate funds to our charity we are still in need of your support. If you are a local or national business or grant provider that would like to support Wigan Borough’s young carers and their families then contact our Project Manager to see how you can help. Donating your time, offering support or publicity is just as valuable for us, to ensure that everyone in Wigan borough is Young Carer Aware.
